Animal Licensing

Licensing Regulations
Everyone who owns a dog or cat within the city limits of the City of Fort Lupton must annually register each animal by purchasing a license through the Police Department.  There is a limit of three (3) animals per residence, excluding a litter.

Licensing Location & Cost
Pet licenses may be purchased at the Police Department between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Pet owners must have proof of a current rabies vaccination prior to obtaining the license. Licenses for spayed or neutered animals are $2 each. Documentary proof that the animal has been spayed or neutered is required. Non-spayed and non-neutered animals may be licensed for $10 each.

Pit Bulls
After May 2003, it is unlawful for any person to own, keep, possess, maintain or harbor any pit bull or pit bull mix within the City of Fort Lupton. 
Pit bulls are defined as:
  • American Pit Bull Terrier
  • American Staffordshire Bull Terrier
  • Staffordshire Bull Terrier
  • Any mixed breed containing any of the above breeds.
