The City of Fort Lupton offers a Learn to Swim Program which follows the guidelines and standards of the American Red Cross Water Safety Program. There is a minimum of two students and a maximum of six students.
Registration for all swimming lessons will be on a first come, first served walk-in basis, and will be taken at the Fort Lupton Recreation Center. After the registration deadline, registration will be closed. If there are any spaces available, registration may be accepted with the approval of the Aquatics Coordinator.
Parent & Child Aquatics: Level 1
The goals of Level 1 are to provide experiences and activities for children to learn to ask permission before entering the water, learn how to enter and exit the water in a safe manner, feel comfortable in the water, explore buoyancy on the front and back position, change body position in the water and learn how to play safely. Age Recommendation: 6 months - 2 years
Parent & Child Aquatics: Level 2
Level 2 builds upon the skills learned in Level 1. The goals of Level 2 are to provide experiences and activities for children to learn more ways to enter and exit the water in a safe manner, explore submerging in a rhythmic pattern, glide on the front and back with assistance, perform combined stroke on front and back with assistance and change body position in the water. Age Recommendation: 18 months - 4 years
Preschool Aquatics: Level 1
Helps pacticipants feel comfortable in the water and begin to develop fundamental skills such as breath control. Age Recommendation: 4 - 6 years
Preschool Aquatics: Level 2
Builds on Level 1 and gives participants success with fundamental skills such as floating and basic locomation.Age Recommendation: 4 - 6 years
Preschool Aquatics: Level 3
Builds on Level 2 and improves participants’ coordination of simultaneous arm and leg actions and alternating arm and leg actions. Age Recommendation: 5 - 6 years
Learn-to-Swim: Level 1
The objective of Level 1 is to build personal water safety information and skills, to help pacticipants feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. At this level, participants start developing positive attitudes, good swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water. Age Recommendation: 6 years +
Learn-to-Swim: Level 2
Participants learn to float without support and to recover to a vertical position. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Participants further develop simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back that lay the foundation for future strokes. Age Recommendation: 6 years +
Learn-to-Swim: Level 3
Participants learn to swim the front crawl and elementary backstroke. The scissor and dophin kicks will be introduced and build on the fundamentals of treading water. Age Recommendation: 6 years +
Learn-to-Swim: Level 4
The objectives of Level 4 is to develop participants’ confidence in the strokes learned thus far and improve other aquatic skills. Participants improve their skills and increase their endurance by swimming familiar strokes (front crawl, elementary backstroke) for greater distances. Participants add the arms to the scissors kick for the sidestroke. Participants also start to learn the back crawl, breaststroke and butterfly and the basics of turning at a wall. Age Recommendation: 6 years +
Learn-to-Swim: Level 5
The objectives of this level are coordination and refinement of strokes. Participants refine their performance of all the strokes (front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke) and increase their distances. Flip turns on the front and back are also introduced. Age Recommendation: 6 years +
Learn-to-Swim: Level 6
The objective of this level is to refine strokes so participants swim them with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness and over greater distances. Age Recommendation: 6 years +
