Annexation Process

Purpose
The Annexation process provides the procedure by which land shall be brought into the jurisdiction of the City of Fort Lupton.

Approval Criteria
All Annexations shall be reviewed for compliance with the Municipal Annexation Act of 1965 (CRS 31-12-101, et seq., as amended) and the City of Fort Lupton Municipal Code (Chapter 15 as amended). The Annexation process is a discretionary legislative act. The City shall never be compelled to annex, unless otherwise required by state law, even if the application is found to be in compliance with the Municipal Annexation Act of 1965 and the City’s Municipal Code.

Annexation Map Requirements

Annexation maps shall be made with an engineer's scale, minimum scale to be one (1) inch represents one hundred (100) feet, and shall be on reproducible Mylar with outer dimensions of twenty-four (24) by thirty-six (36) inches. 
The annexation map shall contain the following information:

  1. The date of preparation, the scale and a symbol designating true north.
  1. The name of the annexation.
  1. The names, addresses and phone numbers of the applicant and the firm or person responsible for preparing the annexation map.
  1. The legal description.
  1. Distinction of the boundary that is contiguous to the City and the length of same.
  1. Lot and block numbers if the area is already platted.
  1. Existing and proposed easements and rights-of-way.
  1. Existing and requested zoning and acreage of each requested zone.
  1. Ownership of all parcels within and adjacent to the annexation.
  1. Appropriate certification blocks as directed by the Planning Department.
