Citizens Be Aware

Due to recent storms in our area there have been numerous roofing contractors soliciting within the Fort Lupton City Limits.  It is important that you are aware of the requirements.

  • Soliciting within the Fort Lupton city limits requires a solicitor’s license obtained from City Hall.  If the solicitor doesn’t have a valid solicitor’s license please ask that they leave.  You can request a photo identification from the solicitor. 

  • Contractors working within the city limits are required to have a contractor’s license obtained from City Hall. 

  • Building permits are required for roofing jobs (even if carried out by the property owner) and are obtained at City Hall. 

  • Having a licensed contractor do the work and obtaining appropriate permits is important for the homeowner’s protection for the following reasons:

    • Liability Insurance coverage by the contractor
    • Worker’s Compensation Insurance coverage by the contractor
    • Avoiding closing issues when selling your property
    • The job will more likely be done correctly if all requirements are followed

  •  Check with your insurance company before signing any contract or paying any money to a contractor.

These requirements have been put in place to protect the homeowners and will be enforced by the Building Department, Code Enforcement and the Fort Lupton Police Department.
